Frequently Asked Questions

Are you trained?

Yes. I completed a 800 hour program from an accredited school on the West Coast in 2003 as well as many hours of continuing education. I have been professionally licensed and working in the field for over ten years.

What is your training?

I am trained in Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, myofacial release (Barnes method),  trigger point therapy, and Thai massage. I have also picked up a few ashiatsu and neuromuscular tricks in my travels. Because of this my work is quite versatile and can be adapted to a variety of needs.

Where are you located?

142 High Street Portland, Maine. Entrance to the building is near the State Theater, O2 Salon, and Found Vintage. Note: Sometimes GPS software will suggest High Street in South Portland. I am NOT in South Portland. I’m in Portland around the corner from the State Theater.

I meet clients in the lobby because the building is a maze and I don’t want you to feel like you’re in “The Shinning“.

Is there parking?

The simple answer is to use the Gateway parking garage. There is parking on High Street and the surrounding blocks but it is catch as catch can. Parking can be tough on busy days. May the parking odds ever be in your favor!

Do you take credit cards?

I accept cash or credit cards.

What is your preferred form of communication?

Text or email but you can call if you are more comfortable with that. I try to respond right away but please be respectful of my time and allow for 24 hours for me to respond. I also usually don’t respond after 10pm.

Also, if I seem terse or distant in my written or phone communications it is because these forms are not secure. Client information and session details are private and I take that very seriously. Keep in mind this is a professional service. I ask that you please keep communications about the session to logistics (i.e. date, time, length of session etc). Brief and polite thank notes would be the only exception to this.  I’m happy to answer any questions you have about the session in person when I see you.

How should I get ready for the massage?

Pretty simple. Shower, cut your finger and toenails, and then come ready to connect, relax and enjoy.

What are your hours?

I work seven days a week 11am-8pm by appointment as time and energy allows. I DO take time off, however. See below for booking ahead.

What about out-calls?

Out-calls are limited to the Portland area (i.e. South Portland, Westbrook, Gorham, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Cape Elizabeth). Traveling outside is unlikely but not impossible. If I choose to travel I may charge an extra fee to do so. Fees are set on a case by case basis based on distance and the number of clients I’ll be seeing versus the business I’ll miss if I’m not at my studio.

How far in advance should I book?

Please be respectful of my time and give me at least 60 minutes lead time for appointments. Booking 24 to 48 hours in advance is optimal as I sometimes get busy around towards the end of the week. My availability for evening appointments is often a little more open than during the day.

Do you work late-nights?

I prefer not to work after 8pm; however, if I agree to a late night session I charge $200 for the first hour and $50 for each additional 30 minutes.

Why does Google list different rates than what is on your site?

The short answer is: Because Google just makes stuff up. My rates are as listed on this site.

The long answer is: Google rates your business based on an algorithm that has very little to do with what you actually charge. There isn’t much one can do about what Google thinks you should charge.

Do you have a table?

Yes. I have a table set up for all in-calls. Out-calls can be performed on a bed, on my table or my Thai futon.

What is Thai massage? How is it different?

A combination of acupressure and yoga-like stretching techniques that employs the use of the therapist’s fingers, thumbs, elbows, arms and feet on the body’s muscles, pressure points and energy lines (“Sen”) to clear energy blockages and balance the body’s energy. It is performed on a mat or futon and employs little to no lotion or oil.

Or just watch this video.

Do you use oil?

I use a blend of coconut oil upon request. For most most services I use lotion.

Do you have a shower?

Unfortunately I do not at this time.

Do you do deep work?

Depth of pressure varies from client to client. I’m a slender guy but my training allows me to apply a great deal of pressure. Those who like deeper work  will not been disappointed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments must be cancelled before 11pm the night before the appointment. No exceptions. Appointments cancelled after that time are subject to a $100 cancellation fee. Failure to pay the cancellation fee results in a blacklist. Last minute appointments cancel after booking are also subject to the fee.

No-shows are subject to the full appointment price or are blacklisted.

What I’m saying is be respectful of my time. Don’t book unless you are 100% sure you can make it.

I’ve got a cold, will a massage be good for me?

Nope. Stay home. Reschedule when your feeling better.
