Thai massage is an ancient holistic massage modality that aims not just to treat the body but the spirit as well. It is similar to acupressure and Shiatsu but also includes stretches and yogic like Asana; hence its nickname “yoga for the lazy”.
Thai massage is performed on the floor rather than a table. The fully dressed client lies on a futon or light mattress. An ingenious system of movements allows the therapist to massage, stretch and position the client without much effort. Every movement is designed to support the client as well as the therapist making it comfortable and safe for both.
Thai massage strengthens the client physically and harmonizes their energy so as to encourage healing and energetic freshness in the body by working the meridian-like energy lines called sen lines. By stimulating this energetic conduits and opening energetic blocks, deficiencies along the energy lines are restored to health and energy or sen is allowed to flow. Along with the energetic benefits, Thai massage is also beneficial for the physical body. Starting at the feet and progressing up to the head, the client’s body is massaged, moved, loosened and stretched. This combination of the energetic and physical make Thai massages a most dynamic and effective modality.
